Charitable Status Disruption
Kwe kwe, Aaniin, Boozhoo, Tansi, Taanishi, Wachiya, Edlanet’e-a,
We hope you are having a warm and restful fall season. This message is to share that we are working hard as we head into our 10 year of operation but that we are navigating some growing pains! Due to some unforeseen financial and accounting challenges, We Matter has had our charitable status disrupted. Our team is working on rectifying the issue as quickly as possible to regain charitable status, and we apologize for any uncertainty or inconvenience this may cause. Any questions can be directed to alexia@wemattercampaign.org.
To note, despite having our charitable status halted for the time being, we are still a registered non-profit and do rely on public dollars and donations to support our programming efforts. We’re grateful for your patience and understanding in this matter, and for your dedicated support of Indigenous youth life promotion. We are committed to having this rectified as soon as possible, and have two financial firms supporting our efforts to speed up the process.
We are acting in accordance with reporting protocols needed for Registered Charities, and aim to have this rectified within the remainder of this fiscal year, or by early next year.Rest assured our programs continue to thrive despite these challenges. We have had two successful grant rounds this year as well as our recently launched third; we have 25 incredible Ambassadors of Hope working across the country to bring youth messages of hope and remind them that we are #strongertogether, and our #WeMatterCampaign continues to produce content, messages of hope, honour and celebrate days of significance and remind youth “I Matter, You Matter, We Matter!”
To honour and celebrate the work We Matter continues to do, you’ll find attached Impact Report 24/25 our Annual Storybook highlighting the work of last year. Getting to recap our work and impact is always a highlight for our team, Board of Directors, and the youth we serve and we hope it is as magical for you to read through as it is for us to create.
